John Geremia Memorial Industrial Trades Scholarship

In February 2021 our family suffered an unexpected and profound loss when our brother John died. He left behind an enormous gap in the lives of those who loved him. John was a devoted brother, a caring and thoughtful son, a proud father and papa, and a much-loved nephew, cousin, friend, and colleague. John’s work as a journeyman lineman was central to his identity and gave him deep satisfaction. To honor that legacy, we established this scholarship to help students who are training for careers in the skilled industrial trades. John took great pride in his craft, and we want to encourage others following a non‑traditional path into the trades—because that education is every bit as valuable as a conventional college degree. For more than 20 years John was an active member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). He dedicated his career to serving others, frequently foregoing personal comfort and family time. He enjoyed mentoring new apprentices and willingly answered calls for storm duty in communities devastated by hurricanes, floods, blizzards, and other disasters. He traveled to Louisiana and Mississippi in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria—experiences he often described as among his most meaningful and proudest moments. This scholarship honors the memory of John Geremia by providing support to students committed to entering the skilled industrial trades. Eligibility - Any high school senior preparing to enter an industrial trade program is eligible to apply. - Applicants who plan to become linemen are given preference.
