Intro
If you graduate from high school with at least a 3.0 GPA, you may qualify for the Promise Scholarship. This program offers West Virginia students significant annual support to help cover the cost of college at eligible in-state institutions.
Eligibility
- Must be a West Virginia high school graduate with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Intended for students who plan to enroll in an eligible West Virginia public or private (independent) two- or four-year college or university.
Award details
- Beginning with the 2024–2025 academic year, recipients may receive up to $5,500 per year.
- The scholarship pays toward tuition and required fees; the award will cover up to $5,500 or the actual tuition and mandatory fees, whichever amount is lower.
- Continued funding of awards depends on annual appropriation by the West Virginia State Legislature.
How to apply
- Complete the Promise Scholarship application and submit a FAFSA.
- For the graduating class of 2026, both the Promise application and the FAFSA must be submitted by the March 1, 2026 deadline.
