WEAC Scholarships

Overview The WEAC Scholarship supports students who plan to enter the education profession and are children of eligible WEAC members. Selected recipients receive $1,450 per year for up to four years to help cover tuition and fees, provided they maintain eligibility. The application is open now; all materials must be submitted by January 29, 2025. Who may apply (eligibility) - The applicant must be the child of a WEAC member in good standing, or the child of a person who died while a member. - The applicant must be a high school senior. - The student must be enrolled in a public high school governed by a publicly elected school board. - The applicant must intend to pursue an education major or minor and plan to work in the education field in Wisconsin. - Academic standing must place the applicant in the top 25% of the graduating class or show a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a non-weighted 4.0 scale at the time of application. (Grade-point values: A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, F = 0.) - Evidence of participation in school and community activities is required. Required application materials A complete submission must include: 1. The completed application form. 2. An official, current high school transcript. 3. An essay (maximum 300 words) explaining the applicant’s reasons for choosing a career in education and what they hope to achieve. 4. A signed statement from the applicant’s guidance counselor or school administrator confirming the student’s cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale and class rank. 5. Two letters of recommendation: - One from a classroom teacher who can speak to the applicant’s academic performance and school involvement; and - One from a community member (outside the school) who can attest to the applicant’s participation in community activities. Award details Recipients receive $1,450 annually for up to four years of postsecondary study. Funds may be applied to tuition and fees in whole or in part. Continued receipt of the scholarship is contingent on ongoing eligibility. Deadline All application materials must be received by January 29, 2025.
