American Meteorological Society Graduate Fellowships
Scholarship Sponsored by American Meteorological Society
Overview The AMS Fellowship Program offers exceptional opportunities for outstanding students beginning graduate study in atmospheric or closely related sciences. Since its inception, 388 students have been named AMS Fellows. The program supports first-year graduate students as they learn about pressing global challenges and prepares them to address real-world problems after earning their degrees. Fellowship recipients receive financial assistance, invitations to participate in special events at the AMS Annual Meeting as honored guests, and ongoing academic and career guidance from AMS. The Society particularly encourages applications from women, racial and ethnic minorities, and students with disabilities—groups that have been historically underrepresented in atmospheric, oceanic, and hydrologic sciences. Eligibility To apply, candidates must meet all of the following: - Be entering their first year of graduate school in fall 2025 (those who already hold a master’s degree are not eligible). - Be pursuing a graduate degree in atmospheric or related sciences at a U.S.-accredited institution. - Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. - Be a U.S. citizen or a U.S. permanent resident. - There is no age limit for applicants. Support and Benefits Each fellow will receive a stipend covering a nine-month academic period. Stipend awards range from $5,000 to $26,000. In addition, fellows receive partial travel support to attend the AMS Annual Meeting, which includes complimentary meeting registration and assistance with hotel and airfare arrangements. Fellows also gain access to exclusive Annual Meeting events and continued AMS academic and career support.
