Introduction The DeMayo Law Offices Arrive Alive Scholarship is an annual program offering local high school seniors the chance to receive a $5,000 college scholarship. The deadline for 2025 entries is Monday, March 24, 2025. Eligible local high schools will also receive the scholarship application by mail. Award details and service area This year the firm will distribute a total of $50,000 in scholarships—ten $5,000 awards—to students who live and attend school in counties served by DeMayo Law Offices. Participating counties include: Mecklenburg, Gaston, Catawba, Union (NC), Cabarrus, Cleveland, Lincoln, Rowan, Caldwell, Stanly, Iredell, Alexander, Burke, Robeson, Scotland, Richmond, Anson, Cumberland, York, Lancaster, Chester, Cherokee, and Chesterfield. Program history The scholarship began in 2003 when DeMayo Law Offices awarded five $1,000 prizes to Mecklenburg County seniors for essays on how the community could reduce underage drinking and driving. Over the last 23 years the program has expanded to ten recipients across 23 counties, each receiving $5,000. To date, the firm has awarded more than $775,000 in scholarships to area high school seniors. Purpose “At DeMayo Law Offices we see the devastation of distracted and drunk driving on an almost daily basis. By raising awareness amongst our youth, it is our hope that we can make a positive impact in our community and save a few lives in the process,” said Michael A. DeMayo. Eligibility and requirements - Applicants must be high school seniors who reside and attend school in one of the counties listed above. - Students must have applied for full-time admission to a four-year college or university. - A completed scholarship application must be returned to DeMayo Law Offices by the March 24, 2025 deadline. Evaluation criteria Scholarships will be awarded based on the student’s creative submission (acceptable formats include an essay, brochure, billboard design, website home page, or music video) plus the completed application package, SAT/ACT scores, official transcripts, and letters of recommendation. Winners will be selected by a review committee. How to submit Applicants should follow instructions on the application and mail their finished submission and all supporting documents to the address provided in the application packet.
